Why I Use LINUX

Just want to share this with everyone I was in a forum today and ran across this.


Q: Is viruses, trojans and malware a threat to a linux system as in Windows?

A: No, there's a very few viruses to linux and the way a Linux/unix is built up makes it difficult to do any serious damage to the system, in fact I've never heard from people who got their Linux/unix system infected.

Q: So why install a anti-virus application/program?

A: For an ordinary Linux Home user with only one OS system their's no need for Anti-virus, but people who's running network, server or dual booting with win OS this tool can be very handy to scan and delete viruses.

Q: I'm a home user only running Linux do I need it?

A: No, a firewall is way better as protection in that case.

I agree with that for the most part and have cought a few things in my mail but I feel that
Even though LINUX will more than likely NOT become infected you should probably still use Clamav since most of us share files with one another a dormant virus could be on your LINUX system and you decide to share this file with family or friends who use windows and suddenly they are infected. So not only are you protecting yourself you are preventing the virus from doing what it was intended for.

New Life

Well today I received some of the parts for a new computer build I am doing, This one is going to be a nice one. This motherboard will hold 8 GB of ram, going to start with 2 for now. I just replaced my motherboard a month ago and after getting this one I am wishing Tiger Direct had this deal at the time when I ordered mine.










This will be the first quad core I have put in, I have done a few duals now and have 2 of my own. Now I have some specialty items to get maybe a cathode light and some different fans.

Windows 7 Beta

The other day I downloaded Windows 7 Beta
and today after work I put an extra hard drive in my computer and installed it. its an activated legal copy that is good until August of this year. I am not a normal windows user I really dislike it however i just wanted to see if it was any improvement over vista. The first thing I notice with it is its "pretty" not in a good sense it seems like they only concentrated on the visual appearance of it naturally. I would rather have my Linux either SUSE or Ubuntu. after using linux for the last 5 or 6 years I have become used to it I guess. Back to windows 7, it does seem faster than vista "to ME" But then again I have never had vista on this computer. I did notice that after stepping away from the computer for about an hour and returning while it was idle it was running about 47 C, any other time even while using it I have never seen it above 40 C or 41 C while running Linux. Not that that is a real big deal it just leads me to believe there is a lot of process's running in the background while sitting there idle. I really didnt spend a lot of time digging into it to see how well it does other than surfing. This weekend I will try some games on it and see how well it does with them.

Internet Issues

I see entre card isn't the only one having issues these days. Sorry if I missed any drops the other day but entre card wasn't cooperating and I had to go to work. Yes this screenshot was from the actual windows website.

Nasty Weather day

Well we got some snow then rain from this big storm on the east coast it really didn't amount to much except making a big mess. However my mom and dad are really getting some snow in upstate NY she just emailed me some pictures.The one down bellow is from Upstate NY. I almost wish I was up there so I might be able to go ski some.























This is from my weather station, now we have wind to deal with. it will dry things out fast but you can hardly stand up out there now. 38 mph gust's.

Is Windows a Virus?

No, Windows is not a virus. Here's what viruses do:

1.They replicate quickly - okay, Windows does that.

2.Viruses use up valuable system resources, slowing down the system as they do so - okay, Windows does that.

3.Viruses will, from time to time, trash your hard disk - okay, Windows does that too.

4.Viruses are usually carried, unknown to the user, along with valuable programs and systems. - Sigh.. Windows does that, too.

5.Viruses will occasionally make the user suspect their system is too slow (see 2) and the user will buy new hardware. - Yup, Windows does that, too.

Until now it seems Windows is a virus but there are fundamental differences: Viruses are well supported by their authors, are running on most systems, their program code is fast, compact and efficient and they tend to become more sophisticated as they mature.

So Windows is not a virus.

It's a bug.

Well this is why I use LINUX.

Glad I Am AN Electrician

This weekend started out with a trip to home depot, (my wife always has an ulterior motive) anyhow it has turned me from electrician to plumber, carpenter or plain general handyman. I sort feel like Schneider on One Day AT a Time.
I can say I am glad I did not choose plumbing as a job after repairing the toilet in our main bath. It is pretty simple to fix its just the thought of what exactly a toilet is especially this time of year when you have sick kids. Makes me wish I went to college more when I was younger. next time she can call a plumber. Hey if there is any plumbers reading this YOU DON'T GET PAID ENOUGH, ok enough of that I am going to take a shower with some bleach.
