praying mantis

Today while outside I spotted something in one of the shrubs on the side of my house and noticed it was a praying mantis, we have always had a lot of them around here, I just thought this was neat watching him for a moment. Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Vacations Over

Well actually I was working out of town but I am home once again, Thats one of the perks of my job , getting to go to some unusual places or just places I have never thought about going to. I just spent a few days in Chincoteague VA. I have never been before nor have I ever thought about going. I can say I will be returning for some R&R this summer when its warmer. It was nice to see this time of year just the same.

Is It Summer Yet

I am tired of cold weather this year, normally winter doesn't bother me a whole lot but I guess as the years roll by my tolerance for the cold has gone away along with my youth. I was looking for a picture today and I found this from this past summer and I recall how hot it was on the day we took them.I cant wait until spring.

Another Beautiful Day in the woods

There is nothing I enjoy more than being in the woods on a quiet peaceful day.

Beautiful Day in the woods

Since I had the day off and my boys were stills sleeping I headed up the road to a nearby nature preserve to try out my new camera. I didn't see much wildlife in the woods but I enjoyed a peaceful walk in the quiet since not another person was in sight,

Thats probably about as exciting as my day will get for the last day of 2010, other than eating later on. Be safe if you are out tonight.

So long To Summer

I would like to apologize to any fellow Entre-card droppers I missed over the last few days. We took a small getaway to Williamsburg VA and the motel we stayed at said (high speed internet) however their idea of high speed VS mine is somewhat different. I was able to do some drops but the time it took was way too long and I was there to have fun. We had a great time its a beautiful place and I think we are going back next year and spending a week then. Its so big 2 days doesn't allow you to experience half of it.
We did one of the ghost tours it was fun but just walking around the place at night is a true experience being that it really gives you the old world experience and makes you feel as though you stepped back in time.

New York State Park Closure

A few weeks ago I had posted about the possibilities of some state parks in New York state getting closed, Well it looks as if the National Park Service has a Different opinion on the situation. This is something I am happy to see after previously living in upstate NY for 28 years I have been to a lot of the parks there and it would be a shame to see them taken away from future generations.

More Camping

A few weeks ago when we went camping we did a lot of hiking. I was going through some pictures and found this old building we came across while hiking.
I find it exciting to find unexpected things when hiking. It also makes you wonder how people got things so far back in the woods to build all this since there is no trace of any road beds any place.

Natures Fury

Today we were at a job site and across the valley we saw what originally was a small cloud of smoke but after an hour it had grown very large, we originally thought it may have been someone burning brush at a nearby home but as it progressed we could see most of the side of the valley was burning.

I am hoping it was nothing to serious there is nothing in the newspapers or local news about it, I might have to wait until tomorrow to see. It has been really dry and today was very hot so that doesn't help the firefighters at all.

Nasty Weather day

Well we got some snow then rain from this big storm on the east coast it really didn't amount to much except making a big mess. However my mom and dad are really getting some snow in upstate NY she just emailed me some pictures. The one down bellow is from Upstate NY. I almost wish I was up there so I might be able to go ski some.

This is from my weather station, now we have wind to deal with. it will dry things out fast but you can hardly stand up out there now. 38 mph gust's.

More Snow

Here is another Picture from upstate NY. We got about an inch of snow here today, I sort of wish we had all this for a few days. One good storm a year would be nice but we have not had a decent snowfall here in the last few years.

Snow

This is a picture from my Mom and Dad's in upstate NY, I sort of wish I was there, for a few days anyhow. It has been a long time since I saw a good snowfall like this. My wife on the other hand could care less if she ever saw another flake.

If you have seen any of my other post's there is a pond at the bottom of this hill.

More Forgotten Moments

The other day I had found some pictures I had forgotten about, This is another one on the memory card from that day. This deer was pretty close and didn't seem too bothered by the fact we were close by. I remember this day because my boys were fascinated by the deer.

This video is from a few minutes ago , one of those video shows was on TV and they had the Jingle cats video, (my link isn't the original) anyhow our cat Baily really did NOT like the video as you can see. every hair on her body was standing up. That's today's laugh and I thought I would share it with you.

Forgotten Moments

Today I was going through my memory cards from my camera's and came across some pictures I forgot we had even taken. They were from a day of hiking at the Shenandoah National State Park in Virginia.

This sign was at a campground alerting you to the fact that the bears could be nearby. We saw a few but they usually keep their distance from you. Finding these makes me impatient for next summer so we can return and do some more hiking.

Eagle's nest

There is an eagles nest near a job we are doing that a pair of eagles live in. The nest is HUGE, The other day I had my old camera with me and got the lower picture here where the eagle is in the top of the tree, the picture didn't come out real good though. Today I brought my good camera with me but didn't see the eagles but I took a picture of the nest anyhow just to show the shear size of it.It amazes me at the amount of work they have put into their nest. The picture doesn't really do it justice you almost have to see it in real life in order to appreciate it.

here you can see the eagle in the top of the tree above the nest.
