Secure Your Home

Just want to put up a few links with some information on securing your home, With the economy the way it is people will get desperate and that tends to lead to crime. I myself took a computer we don't use anymore and installed a Q-see DVR card. Mine is set up to record any motion. It is also a great idea if you have kids since it lets you monitor what they are doing outdoors. One tip if you decide to install cameras, Should you get IR cameras be sure they are capable of a distance of 30' or more in complete darkness unless you are looking at a confined area.

I like the DSC security panels because they are pretty simple to set up and I got the pc interface kit when I ordered mine so I could set it up via a laptop.

Thank God It's Friday

Today we got the conduit runs finished and shot jet line through the pipe, they started back filling too.Its going to take a lot of stone dust to cover these pipes. They have already brought in 5 dump truck loads of it and they used most of it on 1/3 of the trench.

The only thing we have left is to get the low voltage conduits into the house on Monday since we ran out of pipe.

Harpers Ferry

This is from our visit to Harpers Ferry West Virginia

Rocks and More Rocks

Today we almost finished the conduit run for the new feeds to the house. we could have been done long ago if it wasn't for all these rocks in the way everyplace. The excavator broke through this wall for us but the wall sits on a huge rock as you can see they broke that up with a track hoe with a jackhammer attachment.

Two of the conduits break off here to go to the new 60x45 building that is home to the indoor pool. In the morning we have to set a quazite box for them. then we can continue the other three into the house. This job is really starting to get exciting now everything is starting to come together on it and we can see some progress we have made.

Deer

This is a deer we saw over the summer on skyline drive in Virginia something spooked her in the woods and she was jumping around . we think maybe she had a fawn nearby.

Then we spotted the intruder who we think had disrupted her. I would like to go back down to skyline drive to see the leaves changing and all. I wish we lived closer to it so we could go more often but then I guess it wouldn't be as special to visit any more.

Running Conduit for the Service

Today we worked on running the conduit's for the service, tomorrow we have to put stone dust on the pipe and get it ready to back fill.

This was a whole lot of work and the hard part is yet to come. We have a stone wall they dug under and we have to pass beneath before we get to the house. I am still waiting on my MDP and CT cabinet so i can mount all the hardware. So this project may slow down for me for a while. Knowing my luck everything will come in and the weather will turn so we end up doing all of it in nasty weather.

Mondays Down

Back to work, what a drag. Well today we started running pipe for the new service and five feeders. I enjoy doing this part more than the actual wire pull but its all got to be done.

This is my preferred method of doing a multi-shot with pvc it seems to work well and its quick. the boss likes quick. I just take a scrap of plywood and draw out common angles so I can set the one board as a fence so to speak and it holds my pipes while they cool. I would rather bend my own pvc instead of using pre-bent 45's and such they tend to make your work look sloppy even if it is getting buried.

hmm and we think we have it bad?
After reading this i had to put it in here.

Hard Times

Over the last 15 years working in the electrical trade I have been on a lot of different jobs from residential to commercial and some industrial. Over and over I have heard the same thing from people working in different trades about how the electricians are the ones who make all the money. Now aside from scale work I have a hard time believing that is the case. {I was on a scale paying job a few years back where skilled trades were getting paid more than the job superintendent.} Back to the topic my point is over the last few years we have always found we had extra spending money. Well over the last few months that has all changed with the economy the way it is. By the way I also drive a company truck so I don't have the gas issue my wife does. I sure hope something changes in the near future. It also doesn't help when you have 12 and 14 year old boys that think money grows on the tree out back, gee almost feels like Deja vu here I think I remember hearing my parents say this once upon a time.
